I've tried a few tools online to help me make the comparison between salaried and freelance and whether it would be worth my while. Some of the tools I tried were either inaccurate or just did not make sense. They either skip the self-employment tax altogether or just do a basic income divided by hours calculation and that's it. So I decided to build my own :)
Full disclosure: I'm not an accountant or a tax advisor. I'm a project manager who's spent 15+ years getting paid to be organized and thorough, and I put that same energy into making sure these numbers are actually correct with current tax figures and sources linked on every page. But it's a planning tool, not a replacement for a CPA who knows your real situation.
